Quick Bites: Star Bar is up for sale, Spiller Park to open in Toco Hills, and more

Little 5 staple the Star Community Bar (b.k.a. Star Bar) is for sale, according to a sales listing by real estate brokerage firm the Schumacher Group.

This Sun., Dec. 18, Los Angeles’ Jessica Koslow will take over the kitchen at Empire State South, serving her breakfast-centric menu from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Expect grain bowls, toasts, and jams like those found at her breakfast restaurant, Sqirl. Koslow got her culinary career started in Atlanta under the tutelage of Anne Quatrano.

Festivals Jerk Chicken Grill, a quick- service Jamaican concept named after Jamaican cornbread fritters, is slated to open at Glenwood Place (925 Garrett St.) early in 2017. According to What Now Atlanta, Festivals, developed by native Jamaican Winston Ferguson, will serve jerk chicken, pork, and fish in a similar to Moe’s. The Glenwood location will be the first of 12 planned over the next five years.

Hugh Acheson will open the second location of his Ponce City Market concept, Spiller Park Coffee, in the redeveloped Toco Hills Shopping Center by next spring or summer, according to Tomorrow’s News Today. Spiller Park’s rotating coffee menu includes Intelligentsia out of Chicago, Phil & Sebastian out of Calgary, and George Howell out of Acton, Massachusetts.

Bar Margot’s top bartender is headed to Singapore. Joe Haywood, the hirsute head guy at the Four Seasons Atlanta hotspot is being transferred to the luxe hotel chain’s Singapore property, where he’ll take on the role of lead barman.

The owners of Veda Juice, a Peachtree Hills health-conscious juice bar and eatery, are planning to open its second location as early as Dec. 19 in Colony Square’s food hall. Veda Juice will open in the 200-square-foot stall once occupied by Press Together Juice space.
