5 things to do: Big Brutus

What’s happening in Atlanta today

Atlanta Community Food Bank’s Hunger Walk/Run

Turner Field - 755 Hank Aaron Drive Atlanta, GA 30315 Free-$35. Noon.

As its biggest fundraiser of the year, Atlanta Community Food Bank’s annual Hunger Walk/Run 5K returns the streets March 5. The run (or walk, if that’s more your forte) helps raise funds the nonprofit needs to make a difference in the lives of hungry citizens in metro ATL and North Georgia — money will benefit ACFB, Episcopal Community Foundation for Middle and North Georgia, the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, Lutheran Services of Georgia, Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, and St. Vincent De Paul Society. Additionally, they’ll have tasting tents and trucks, along with live entertainment from Freddie the Falcon and the Falcons Cheerleaders, Medieval Times, the Imperial Opa Circus, Captain Planet Foundation and musical guests to boot.

Warm Art: Exhibit

SweetWater Brewery - 195 Ottley Drive N.E. Atlanta, GA 30324 Free. 7 p.m.

Enjoy a night of art, music and beer at SweetWater Brewing Company’s event space, the Woodlands. For one night, the new event space turns into art gallery featuring artwork from over ten artists while Pieter van der Meer paints to tunes by live DJs.

Big Brutus, Shepherds and Neighbor Lady

The Earl - 488 Flat Shoals Ave. S.E. Atlanta, GA 30316 $8. 8 p.m.

Wynonna and the Big Noise

The Buckhead Theatre - 3110 Roswell Road N.E. Atlanta, GA 30305 $51-$66. 8 p.m.

This Judd daughter has a long, successful 33-year career in mainstream, commercial country both as a member of the Judds and a solo artist. But her recent debut fronting the Big Noise outfit, led by husband/drummer/producer Cactus Moser, loses much of the singer’s previous slickness, replacing it with a swampier, sassier groove provided by an organically rocking band. The Roots and Revival Tour promises to visit Judd’s older catalog, too, which will get a shot of adrenalin due to a tougher approach that’ll also enhance her gutsy vocals and notoriously feisty approach.

Un-Shame On You

7 Stages Theatre - 1105 Euclid Ave. N.E. Atlanta, GA 30307 $15-$55. 8 p.m.

On the same unseasonably odd Friday night, suburban apartment dwellers come face to face with Shame, themselves, strong-willed weather, and one another. Do they have the strength to evict shame and wrestle the elements of the night? The weight of what each resident confronts nudges them in front of a road paved with life and death choices.
