Paint & Pint

Need a fun and  local night out? Like to enjoy beautiful things and/or craft beer? At Gate City Brewing, brewing is art. The crew gets its hands dirty, shows off the result and drinks a little beer in the process. Paint & Pint is your time to shine. With no experience at all necessary, you’ll paint alongside a talented instructor as she guides you from blank 16x20 canvas to polished masterpiece.

The Science of Sour Beer

Orpheus Brewing - 1440 Dutch Valley Place N.E. Atlanta, GA 30324 $20. 6 p.m.

In conjunction with the Atlanta Science Festival, Orpheus Brewery invites Atlanta to sip on science as it breaks down the process behind its signature sour beer for casual consumers. Patrons will learn all about the science behind a satisfying cold glass of beer from special guests like John Isenhour. The professional brewmaster specializes in four styles of beer and has a doctorate in beer culture, which apparently must be earned from a university and not during a raucous game of beer pong. Isenhour shares his knowledge with Orpheus customers while they taste the magic of microbiology. Producers use bacteria, manipulating them with different temperatures, hops, sugars and other ingredients, to create an endless combination of flavors. Orpheus experiments with strains like lactobacillus, which makes lactic acid, a significant microbiological component in its sour beers. Guests can sample the science as part of their admission and go home with the unofficial title of “Beer Scientist Extraordinaire.”

85 South Live Comedy Show

Smith’s Olde Bar - 1578 Piedmont Ave. N.E. Atlanta, GA 30324 $10-$25. 8 p.m.

Out of the app and into the real world, Atlanta’s favorite comedy podcast is going live. The morning commute hasn’t been the same since “85 South Comedy Show” launched last year. Captained by some of the South’s heaviest hitters, comedians Clayton English (“Last Comic Standing”), Karlous Miller (“Wild ‘N Out”) and DC Young Fly (“Wild ’N Out”) sling out jokes to the masses every week and now you can be in the room with them. The trio of jokesmiths host a live edition at Smith’s Olde Bar that promises freestyles, roasts, live musical performances and more. Don’t wait till the episode drops to wish you had gone.

SOHN, William Doyle

Terminal West - 887 W. Marietta St. N.W., Studio C Atlanta, GA 30318 $17-$20. 8 p.m.

Thanks to artists such as Sampha, James Blake and HONNE, British purveyors of soul-synth sounds are having a moment. Enter SOHN, who nabbed critical acclaim with his 2012 single, “The Wheel,” which followed with the first full-length debut, Tremors. In the time since, the London-based songwriter and electronic producer born Toph Taylor has worked with everyone from Rhye to Lana Del Rey. SOHN’s sophomore album, Rennen, zeroes in on the artist’s vocal talents, offering a more stripped-down production, which for a guy like Taylor is probably still better than most knob turners out.
