ACP Special Exhibitions: Teen Spirit

Entering its sixth year, ACP’s collaborative program with inpatient teens at Scottish Rite and Egleston hospitals has impacted participants beyond everyone’s expectations. Some volunteer photographers, led by ACP co-founder Corinne Adams, have been leading 400 teens a year to explore their identity (including or in spite of their diagnosis) through writing and photographic self-portraiture. This event occurs at two locations: Brickworks Art Gallery and Atlanta School of Photography, 1135 Sheridan Road N.E.

800 Collective and TILA Studios present a show that centers art as a tool for fostering awareness, healing, social empowerment and progress. Local artists and some from New York and Chattanooga explore Solange’s acclaimed A Seat at the Table through visuals, literature and performance art, resulting in newfound inspiration around self-care, activism and self-expression.

PROPAGANDA! a design show

Facet Gallery - 684 John Wesley Dobbs Ave. N.E. Atlanta, GA 30312 Free. 7 p.m.

SOAP Goods Creative, Facet Gallery and the A3C Festival are bringing together Atlanta artists 38 of them to be exact to examine and celebrate one of the oldest subversion tactics at PROPAGANDA! a design show. Each artist will display an 18-by-24 poster with the unrestricted social, political or emotional propaganda of their choosing. Miya Bailey, Stefan Kjartansson, Vanessa Toro, Dosa Kim, Richard Wade Morgan, FRKO, JOEKINGATL, Bart Sasso and more are slated to perform or display their work. All the posters will be new, original work, but the propaganda will continue outside of the visual pieces: Artists, activists and musicians are encouraged to share minute-long pieces of spoken propaganda when the PROPAGANDA! Soap Box is activated.

The Making of Modern Atlanta

Narrated by former Ambassador Andrew Young and news anchor Monica Pearson, The Making of Modern Atlanta chronicles the people and events that shaped Atlanta, the strides Young made as mayor during the 1970s and his efforts to bring the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. The film highlights key events in Atlanta history such as the purchase of a racetrack that would later become Hartsfield-Jackson, the civil rights movement and the alliances formed between black and white civic leaders to work together peacefully in the public sphere. Interviews include Congressman John Lewis, D-Georgia, Charlie Loudermilk, Lonnie King, John Portman, and others. This event is BYOB.
