Memphis, Tennessee, is on anyone’s shortlist as one of the most influential music cities in the United States. Between its place as a hub for roots, soul, blues, country, and rock ’n’ roll via Stax and Sun Records, and being home to icons like Elvis Presley, B.B. King, and Alex Chilton, the city retains a storied history. On March 15, veteran author and Memphis music journalist Robert Gordon (It Came From Memphis) reads from and discusses his latest book, Memphis Rent Party, the book compiles revealing essays that dig below the surface of his hometown to tell the behind the scenes tales of a night in the life of history.
