Khruangbin

From a tropical concoction of Peruvian psychedelia, Cambodian rock, American soul, and more emerges Khruangbin. On the group’s new album Con Todo El Mundo (Dead Oceans), the Texas trio weaves an exotic tapestry of ’60s dream sequences and beach scenes. Laura Lee (bass), Mark Speer (guitar), and DJ Johnson (drums) make the most of what seems like a simple trio setting, with DJ laying down a Meters-esque beat on many tracks while Speer crafts a Middle Eastern take on surf guitar. Lee’s hazy vocals appear and disappear throughout the recording as her bass establishes the groove. Dance room will be needed for this one.
