The Fairburn, Georgia-based folk duo Heart Hunters, featuring husband and wife songwriting team Drew de Man and Brianna Blackbird, are set to release their debut album, American Eclipse on July 20. “Red (Elegy)” the album’s first single and video, captures de Man and Blackbird’s lush vocal harmonies and mystical Americana arrangements. Of course, singer and guitarist de Man is no stranger to the Atlanta music scene. For years he lead the dark, country-inflected outfit No River City. Singer and stand-up bass player Blackbird is a Portland, Oregon transplant, who made her mark in Georgia alongside de Man in the group Pretend Sweethearts. Heart Hunters is the next chapter in their musical journey together. “Red (Elegy)” is a cover by the late, self-described “post-modern mythic American folk” songwriter Dave Carter, and his songwriting partner Tracy Grammer. The video for Head Hunter’s rendition, directed by Nashville-based filmmaker Stacie Huckeba, is an impressionistic homage to Carter’s life, steeped in camp, symbolism, and modern mythology.

Heart Hunters celebrate the release party for American Eclipse at Eddie’s Attic on Sun., Sept. 23. $10-$14. 5 p.m. (doors). 515-B North McDonough St. (upstairs) 404-377-4976. www.eddiesattic.com.
