HOMEGROWN FLICKS: From WonderRoot, for your viewing pleasure.
From blockbuster films to heart-wrenching dramas, Atlanta’s become a destination for Hollywood’s biggest names to shoot movies — but what about the locals who pave the way on their own terms? WonderRoot’s Generally Local, Mostly Independent Film Series, in partnership with the Plaza Theatre Foundation and the Atlanta Film Society, showcases emerging filmmakers from across the perimeter that don’t get the spotlight the big names do. In this quarterly program, industry professionals and guest jurors are brought in to support participants in readying their work for film festivals across the nation. Hosted at the historic Plaza Theatre, the series offers a glimpse of what Atlanta’s finest minds are catching behind the camera. Featured films will include Daddy’s Girl (Jasmine Jewet), What We’re Reading Today! (Shannon Strucci), Annex (Tommy Nagle), Twenty Minute Coffee (Zane Ally), Ends (David Tabor), and Weapon (Kaitlynn Howard, Gabriela McNicoll, Joseph Skillas, Ashlynd Graham). $10. 7-10 p.m. Thurs., July 26. Plaza Theatre, 1049 Ponce de Leon Ave. N.E. 404-254-5955. https://filmfreeway.com/WonderRootFilm.
