HELLO GORGEOUS: Barbara Streisand as Fanny Brice.

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of William Wyler’s iconic musical-comedy, Funny Girl,  a film that made history for representing a woman who succeeded on the basis of her wit, not her looks. Funny Girl tells the story of Fanny Brice, famed comedian and Broadway star of the 1900s, through her rise to fame as a Ziegfield girl, her subsequent career, and her personal life — particularly her stormy relationship with entrepreneur Nick Arnstein. Watch this 1968 classic on the big screen at the Fox Theatre, and prepare for tears and laughter as Fanny chases her dreams and discovers the vibrant and beautiful woman she is inside.

$8-$12. 6 p.m. (doors). Thurs., Aug. 2. The Fox Theatre, 660 W. Peachtree St. N.W. 404-881-2100. www.foxtheatre.org.
