SACRICICES: Prefuse 73

Atlanta expat Guillermo Scott Herren, better known as Prefuse 73, left town decades ago. But his music will forever bear the mark of MJQ in the ’90s — a rich and progressive environment where jazz (pre 1973, of course), post-punk, hip-hop, and house music blended with multiple hues of worldly and experimental sounds. This weekend, Herren returns to Atlanta playing songs from his latest album, Sacrifices (Lex Records). Throughout this latest offering, songs such as “Without Anyone,” “Basinkitarian,” and “Silver & Gold” — the latter features the mesmerizing voice of R&B singer James Tillman — ease up on the deconstructionist approach to yield one of Herren’s most sublime listens yet. The production is complex, evocative, driven by Prefuse 73’s signature post-rock and psychedelic ambiance.
