Oxford-based power trio TTNG’s 2008 debut, Animals, is widely recognized as one of the most influential and highly-regarded albums in the modern math rock genre. Released under the group’s original moniker, This Town Needs Guns, the album is known for its complex and precisely layered instrumentation as well as its straightforward and vulnerable lyrics by original vocalist Stuart Smith, who left the band in 2011. Earlier this month, the band released Animals Acoustic, an unplugged version of the album featuring Smith returning for a nostalgic and emotional delivery of his original lyrics. Far from simply stripping down the original album, Animals Acoustic reimagines each track with guest appearances by Nate Kinsella (American Football), Yvette Young (Covet), The Mivos Quartet and The Kraken Quartet. TTNG’s Atlanta show is the final stop of the band’s 10-year anniversary tour, performing the entirety of Animals in its original electric setup with Smith on vocals.
