BURNT SKY: Noise and language inform each other in Ben Trickey's songwriting.

Singer, guitarist, and video artist Ben Trickey recently stopped by CL HQ for a Live From the Archives set. After the performance, Trickey stuck around to talk with Music Editor Chad Radford and podcast engineer Jacob Chisenhall, about growing up in the South, his upcoming tour of England and Ireland, and how his background as a noise artist affects his songwriting.

On Wednesday, March 20, Trickey joins David Dondero for a night of music at Buteco in Grant Park. In the meantime, press play and check out a conversation about staying sane in the age of social media.

On a side note, before heading over to Buteco on March 20, Dondero is playing CL’s Live From the Archives at noon. Tune in.

Dondero is a storied musical journeyman. His resume includes singing and playing rhythm guitar with Clemson, SC’s post-hardcore outfit Sunbrain, living in Atlanta at the height of the Cabbagetown scene of the mid-’90s, and a lifetime spent on the road playing shows at venues, galleries, and DIY spots in nearly every town along the way. Dondero is currently on the road playing songs from his 2017 LP, Inside the Cat's Eye. Tune in.

Ben Trickey and David Dondero. Free. 8 p.m. Buteco, 1039 Grant St SE suite c-10. 404-963-2929. www.butecoatlanta.com.

While assembling CL’s 2019 Music Issue, I was only vaguely aware of a few loose threads that could tie the whole issue together. It was during my conversation with Drivin N Cryin frontman and principal songwriter Kevn Kinney that the answer revealed itself. Kinney and I talked about his early days in Atlanta, hanging out in his apartment with the members of Milwaukee punk band Die Kreuzen, who,... | more...
