US Supreme Court declines 'racist juror' case

News Headlines March 18, 2019

The US Supreme Court declined to hear the appeal of a Georgia man who was given the death penalty for a 1990 murder.

Ten white jurors and two African-American jurors voted to convict Keith Leroy Thorpe. Subsequent interviews with jurors attributed racist sentiments to one white juror who purportedly said" “After studying the Bible, I have wondered if black people even have souls.”

The Supreme Court declined the case on technical grounds and didn't directly rule on the presence of racism.
