Mayor Bottoms ready for war over airport

Atlanta Headlines March 27, 2019

The Georgia Senate Transportation Committee passed Senate Bill 131 which paves the way for the state’s takeover of the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The bill was opposed by Delta Airlines and met with fierce opposition in the City of Atlanta, Mayor Bottoms told Georgia Public Broadcasting. It is doubtful the bill would pass the legislature and be signed into law by the Governor, but the attempt is a stark reminder of the power of largely white legislators to meddle in Atlanta’s economic affairs.

The airport has been the source of patronage by corrupt city officials over the years. Given Hartsfield-Jackson’s scale and dominance over the skies of the US, the airport is a powerhouse in aviation circles and the economic jewel of the State.
