NEWSBRIEF: State of Georgia Embraces MARTA Funding

The State will contribute $6 million to MARTA’s Budget this year.

Governor Brian Kemp signed into law a bill that allows State funds to support MARTA. The legislature passes a tax on ride-sharing that established a pool of money for transit and this bill authorizes $6mm for MARTA. A portion of these funds also go towards the support of the recently announced expansion of Westside Atlanta transportation to support Microsoft’s campus.

MARTA’s press release: “MARTA is thrilled to see the partnership with the state of Georgia develop in this way with the leadership of Gov. Kemp,” said MARTA General Manager and CEO Jeffrey Parker. “Speaker Ralston and the Senate’s vision around transit and economic development in metro Atlanta have earned the support of the governor and we believe the FY22 budget and line item for MARTA are a strong start to the new chapter in the story of MARTA and the state of Georgia.”
