NEWS BRIEF: Slutty Vegan and PETA collaborating on health and hunger
Slutty Vegan teams with PETA
An initiative called the Food Justice Campaign is putting pressure on the government to give subsidies to grocers in low-income areas so that they can stock and sell more fresh fruit and vegetables. It’s being launched by plant-based burger joint Slutty Vegan and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). “I see us in an inner-city community tapping into the issue of food insecurity and food injustice and doing a call to action to these government corporations and saying put the money into vegan spaces,” said Slutty Vegan owner Pinky Cole. A study by PETA found more than 35 food deserts in the metropolitan Atlanta area and that one in eight Georgia residents has experienced food insecurity at some point. theatlantavoice.com
