DeKalb Avenue in Atlanta is finally getting some badly needed attention after years of complaints from drivers about its pitiful condition. Road crews have been spotted this week working on sidewalks and pedestrian connections, and flashing signs are warning motorists about lane closures and road work ahead that will cover about six miles, from Jackson Street to Ridgecrest Road. Left-turn lanes will be installed at crucial points such as Arizona Avenue and Krog Street. Best of all, the notorious “suicide lane” that straddles part of its middle will be eliminated. Completion of the DeKalb Avenue Safety Improvement Project is expected by September 2023. urbanize.city
