NEWS BRIEF: Social experiment gives Black women monthly income
Investing in POC
Two nonprofits are teaming up for a guaranteed-income experiment that will give Black women in certain areas of Georgia a monthly check with no strings attached. The Georgia Resilience and Opportunity Fund along with GiveDirectly plan to enroll 650 Black women in two groups: one will get $850 a month for two years, and the other an upfront payment of $4,300, with recurring $700 monthly payments to follow. The project In Her Hands addresses inequality and is spurred by the fact that Black women in the state make 63 cents for every dollar earned by white men. fastcompany.com
