A nonprofit organization in Chicago is handing out a total of $3.1 million to a group of artists across the country, including local honoree Lonnie Holley. United States Artists is presenting 63 artists and collectives with cash grants of $50,000 each. The work they do covers disciplines from visual art, craft practices and dance to music, film and media art. “When you honor me and artists like me, you also honor the materials we work with,” says Holley, an Atlanta-based artist known for painting, music, and sculpture. “Recognizing a wide range of diverse artists helps us tell a complete story of our nation.” theartnewspaper.com
