Statistics just released by the Atlanta Police Department reveal that homicides are up 43 percent for 2022 compared to the same period last year, with 20 committed so far, compared to 14 for this time last year. The alarming rise puts the city on track to beat the 2021 figure of 158, the highest in three decades. Rapes are up 236 percent, with 37 reported so far this year, compared to 11 at this time in 2021. Burglaries are also up 18 percent from last year, and shoplifting cases are up 4 percent. Mayor Andre Dickens has promised to install new streetlights, security cameras, and license plate readers in the city, and to hire hundreds of new police officers. dailymail.co.uk
