A new 19,000-square-foot headquarters now under construction for the nonprofit Trees Atlanta agency will facilitate the planting of 10,000 trees annually around the city, create 20 full-time jobs, employ 95 high schoolers, and reach more than 9,000 students, according to Invest Atlanta.

Architectural plans call for offices, events space and classrooms, plus a 3,100-square-foot operations building and a large meadow, all located in Oakland City near the entrance to the BeltLine’s Westside Trail. Fittingly, a giant oak on the site has been saved from the axe. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

“Environmental equity sometimes flies under the radar,” said Invest Atlanta executive Stephen McRae in a statement. “This project, and the work of Trees Atlanta, will create workforce development opportunities for in-demand green jobs and ensure that all areas of Atlanta have access to cleaner air and a healthier environment.” urbanize.city
