NEWS BRIEF: Big Brothers Big Sisters gets $3.6 million gift from philanthropist
Mission of mentoring young people gets a hefty boost
Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has given Big Brothers Big Sisters of Atlanta a gift of $3.6 million for its mission of mentoring youngsters, the agency announced Tuesday. “This unprecedented investment is the largest single donation from an individual in the organization’s history and serves as a powerful message in recognizing the importance of investing in mentorship to build and strengthen communities and society as a whole,” officials said in a statement.
According to BBBSA, there are more than 150 young people in Atlanta known as ‘Littles’ who are waiting to be matched with mentors, known as ‘Bigs.’ “The visibility of this gift will bring more awareness and interest to our mission,” said Board Chair Randy Tanner, “and we hope that others will see this as an invitation to get involved.” bbbsatl.org
