DeKalb County police officers, firefighters, paramedics and emergency medical technicians are about to receive 6.5 percent pay raises, CEO Michael Thurmond announced Tuesday, making them among the highest earners in Georgia for their kind of work, the AJC reports. The increase becomes effective Oct. 1 and raises starting salaries of recruits to $50,500. The raises also apply to existing sworn officers with the rank of lieutenant and below. Hiring incentives of $3,000 for police and fire department staff are being implemented as well. Details: ajc.com
