Aglanta Forum

Friday July 21, 2017 10:00 AM EDT
Cost: No Cost Info

From the venue:

The Aglanta Forum brings together growers and community members to learn best practices from local experts and national leaders ahead of a charge to install 100 food producing gardens in the Westside of Atlanta, led by Historic Westside Gardens.

This charge is supported by the City of Atlanta Office of Resilience, which is leading an initiative to make vacant city property available to growers.

The Forum will raise money for HWG to lead the charge and empower residents to grow their own food in Atlanta.

Following an opening panel discussion led by Dr. John Roberts, Assistant Professor of Agroecology at the University of Rhode Island, the Aglanta Forum will feature two educational tracks — Community Food Gardening and Home Food Gardening, led by the American Community Gardeners Association and HWG.

These in-depth sessions cover issues across the spectrum of community building, including leadership development, grassroots fundraising, and the collaborative economic impact of food gardening networks on individual, community and environmental health.

There will be two lunchtime plenary speakers from leaders of successful food gardening projects: Eric Kornacki of Re:Vision from Denver and Lee Perry of Fleet Farming from Orlando. Lunch will be provided by Ted’s Montana Grill.

On Saturday evening, join us for a screening of Dirt and Deeds: In Mississippi, a film about the role farmers of African descent played in the Civil Rights movement by providing food, shelter, and leveraging land as collateral to help activists.

Tickets for the entire Aglanta Forum are available for a suggested donation of $50 to Historic Westside Gardens. Tickets for the film are available for a $10 suggested donation.

There will be scholarship opportunities available through sponsorship of the event. Email execdir at historicwestsidegardens.org if you are interested in receiving a scholarship.

We invite everyone to the Taste of Aglanta at the Sweet Auburn Curb Market following the Forum at 7:30 p.m. Attendees of the Forum will get a discount to the Taste of Aglanta.
