BDSM: Beyond the Basics
From the venue:
The purpose of this workshop is to give mental health practitioners an opportunity to expand their knowledge of bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, and sadomasochism (BDSM) as it applies to clients and their relationships. Workshop participants will examine therapeutic issues clients involved in BDSM may bring to session, such as:
- Relationship negotiation
- Models of sexual arousal
- Stigma management
- Disclosure concerns
- Barriers to the therapeutic relationship
We will close the workshop with how to distinguish between consensual BDSM and intimate partner violence, which represent distinct interpersonal experiences that must not be confused. The profound differences in the psychological impact of these is often misunderstood or overlooked, particularly by those outside the kink community.
