Royal Peacock Grand Reopening

This historic Auburn Avenue venue has seen superstars including the late James Brown and Aretha Franklin walk through its doors since debuting in 1949. While weekly events such as the reggae and soca night Gal Farm have been drawing crowds for a few weeks now, tonight, the Peacock officially reopens with some of the musicians who started their careers there, including longtime host Gorgeous George, Tommy Brown, Chick Willis and Sandra Hall, backed by the Bretheren band. Along with jam sessions and a bit of history from performers who remember the Peacock in its heyday, organizer Dr. Love will award William Guest (of Gladys Knight and the Pips) his Smell the Roses Award, too.
