The James Weldon Johnson Institute hosts The James Weldon Johnson Medal. The Johnson Medal is awarded to individuals who have excelled in the areas of civil rights, diplomacy, education, journalism, law, literature, and music. The purpose of the award is to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to humankind in the tradition of James Weldon Johnson. The Johnson Medalists for 2010 are Ms. Lucy Cline Huie, Dr. Deborah E. Lipstadt, Dr. Joseph E. Lowery, Mr. Robert P. (Bob) Moses, Justice Leah Ward Sears, Dr. Sondra K. Wilson and Ambassador Andrew Young.Reception to follow.
