Few LPs have come to define a genre like What’s Going On. Although 40 years have passed since the release of Marvin Gaye’s seminal soul recording, the tribulations he articulated (war, poverty, environment) remain as lasting as Gaye’s influence on successive generations. Firmly rooted in Gaye’s lineage, Atlanta’s soul community celebrates the release with a tribute featuring local heavyweights scheduled to perform the album in its entirety. Partial proceeds will benefit jazz and progressive soul station, 91.9 (WCLK-FM).
