Sara Crawford is no stranger to the written word, regularly flexing her pen-wrangling muscles in both the traditional and musical sense. After all, in 2010 she did snag the coveted title of CL’s Best Local Songwriter. Presently Crawford prepares to tackle a new high: her hometown theater. Her play, The Spins, follows a musician’s (Kathrine Barnes) journey through grief after losing her brother. Although Out of Box Theatre boasts the work’s world premier, The Spins earned a finalist placing in the 2011 Essential Theatre Playwriting Award competition. Judging from the trophy shelf alone, it stands to reason this Alexander Julian Verner-directed joint is worth catching.
