From the venue:Fela Kuti would be 78-years-old this October. The famed Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer died from complications related to HIV/AIDS in 1997. At his funeral, an estimated one million people chanted â€œFela will live forever!â€ Thanks to the Broadway musical Fela!, Kutiâ€™s work has reemerged for new audiences to behold. His intricate polyrhythms, fiery funk grooves, and bold political activism have influenced countless artists, and continue to inspire many more. Atlantaâ€™s Afrobeat ensemble Lightning Orchestra celebrates Kutiâ€™s birthday by performing classics from his prolific catalog. Donations will go towards the U.S. Human Rights Network.
