From the venue:

Fela Kuti would be 78-years-old this October. The famed Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer died from complications related to HIV/AIDS in 1997. At his funeral, an estimated one million people chanted “Fela will live forever!” Thanks to the Broadway musical Fela!, Kuti’s work has reemerged for new audiences to behold. His intricate polyrhythms, fiery funk grooves, and bold political activism have influenced countless artists, and continue to inspire many more. Atlanta’s Afrobeat ensemble Lightning Orchestra celebrates Kuti’s birthday by performing classics from his prolific catalog. Donations will go towards the U.S. Human Rights Network.
