From the venue:Join Margaret Mitchell House for an engaging evening exploring the lives of two women of the Civil War era. Carolyn Curry’s Suffer and Grow Strong chronicles the life of Ella Gertrude Clanton Thomas, an intelligent, spirited woman born in 1834 to one of the wealthiest families in Georgia. At the age of 14 she began and kept a diary for 41 years. These diaries of her life before, during, and after the Civil War filled thirteen hand-written volumes with 450,000 words.
