Efforts to protest Georgia Public Broadcasting’s controversial takeover of WRAS (88.5-FM), the longtime 100,000-watt student voice of Georgia Statue University, have gone quiet over the past month. But expect things to pick back up now that school is back in session. On Thurs., Aug. 28, “Album 88” supporters will gather in Hurt Park from 4-7 p.m. for a #SaveWRAS Protest to speak out against the loss of approximately 100 hours of weekly daytime broadcast time for student DJs. With any luck, station supporters will bring back the cherished glory days of independent college radio to Atlanta’s airwaves.
