McIntosh County Shouters
Thursday February 28, 2013 07:00 PM EST
Cost: FREE - reservations required.
From the venue:
The Shouters are an African-American family of ten performers from the Bolden community on the southeastern coast of Georgia. Known for their ring shout - the oldest African-derived tradition surviving on the North American continent - this unique ensemble presents a fusion of call-and-response singing, polyrhythmic percussion (handclapping, foot patting with a stick beating a wooden board) and expressive dance-like shuffling circular movements, which have had a profound influence on African-American music and religious practices. Sponsored by CENCIA.
