From the venue:

Nelson Street Gallery proudly presents renowned artist Woody Cornwell’s “It’s Mutual”, a series of abstract pieces honed to giant surfaces. These are pictures, fictions or filters that accumulate, break and slip. While Cornwell’s intention is to give you something you’ve never seen or recognized, his approach in the process of making said pieces is astonishing. These are volatile images, conjurings, disruptions and counterpoints - ideas shifting, then sculpted into paint and fixed on the surface. But as difficult as it is to prescribe this work some fixed meaning it certainly isn’t a rubric – each descriptive word redefines then falters. Even so, there is always something left behind. No two people are going to see or perceive the same thing. It’s problematic and contradictory, which is what intrigues Cornwell about abstract painting. Its ok not to know, not to predetermine outcomes. Meaning exists between the evidence and intent of painting these objects. You can have what you want and leave the rest.Woody Cornwell is an Artist, Arts Educator, Art Consultant and Instigator in the creation of Eyedrum Art and Music Gallery in Atlanta GA. Born 1976 in South Carolina he grew up in Georgia garnering degrees from Georgia State University and Savannah College of Art and Design. Since emerging as an accomplished abstract painter in 2000 he has exhibited in Atlanta, Paris, New York, Miami, Austin, Houston and Los Angeles including a solo museum show at The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville. Woody has participated as a board member for Art Papers magazine, Forward Arts Foundation Emerging Artist Committee and Public Domain and continues as a board member with Eyedrum Art and Music Gallery, recently awarded a Robert Rauschenberg SEED Grant.
