The story buzzes around the stoop of a tenement on the East Side of Manhattan, where several families suffer not only two brutally hot summer days in the 1940s, but the challenges of a teeming metropolis and tensions surrounding racism, politics, addiction and illicit sexual affairs. The show depicts the ordinary romances, squabbles and gossiping of neighbors, until mounting tensions eventually build into a tragedy of epic proportions. Featuring participants in the 2013 Harrower Summer Opera Workshop, with Carroll Freeman, stage director, and Rolando Salazar, music director.
