Brian Setzer Orchestra’s Christmas Rocks Tour

Friday December 6, 2013 07:00 PM EST
Cost: $35-$75

From the venue:

Some contend that ex-Stray Cats guitar picker-turned-big band leader Brian Setzer’s yearly Christmas Rocks Tour (now in its 10th year) milks the concept for as many holiday bucks as possible. But those critics probably haven’t experienced the sheer exuberance that Setzer’s Orchestra brings to the stage, combining a swizzle-sticking Rat Pack sensibility with a truly swinging brass-powered group that’s comfortable with jump blues and rockabilly, and has just as much fun as he does. You can cuddle up with your sweetie and a highball in your living room and push play on 2005’s Christmas Extravaganza DVD, but there’s nothing like witnessing this sizzling, high-energy ensemble rip it up live on a rollicking “Jingle Bells.” Setzer wails on his six-string, bringing ’50s reverb and twang to the present while unearthing rearranged holiday oddities with his encyclopedic knowledge of the genre. He’ll probably even revise a few classics such as his combination of “Stray Cat Strut” with “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” You’re guaranteed to leave with a smile as your seasonal stress disappears as fast as spiked eggnog at a dysfunctional family get-together.
