15th Annual Art Paper Art Auction

Once a year, Art Papers holds a silent auction to raise money for its magazine. It works like this: A couple hundred artists donate a single work of art, Art Papers hangs the work in a massive gallery, opening bids are set well below market value, and a party is thrown. By the end of the night, the well-heeled patrons and contributing artists have mingled, many cocktails have been consumed, and the typically benign routine of silent auction has become a physical sport, with art lovers throwing elbows and making sneak attacks to scribble in bids for their favorite works. On Sat., Feb. 1, that tradition will continue for the 15th annual Art Papers Art Auction at Mason Murer Fine Art. This year’s artists include established locals Rocio Rodriguez and Brian Dettmer, far-flung notables Michael Jones McKean and Joseph Sola, and emerging artists Chris Chambers, Jessica Caldas, and Nikita Gale, among many, many others. Come early, as the auctions end in stages throughout the night.
