Deathtrap tells the story of Sidney Bruhl, a once successful murder mystery playwright whose inspiration has run dry. At the end of his rope with money running out, Sidney has invited to his home fledgling playwright Clifford, who has sent Sidney his first play for his appraisal. Realizing the plays potential as a sure-fire hit, Sidney proffers the idea of a collaboration to Clifford, but only as a guise.
