Jericho Brown joined the Emory English/Creative Writing faculty in Fall 2012. His first collection of poetry, PLEASE, won the 2009 American Book Award. His poems have appeared in journals and anthologies including The American Poetry Review, jubilat, Oxford American, Ploughshares, A Public Space, and The 100 Best African American Poems edited by Nikki Giovanni. He grew up in Louisiana and worked as a speechwriter for the mayor of New Orleans before receiving his PhD in Creative Writing and Literature from the University of Houston. He is a recipient of the Whiting Writers Award and the Radcliffe Institute at Harvard University.
