Georgia State University School of Music kicks off the 2018/2019 Signature series by welcoming our new Artist-in-Residence, the Grammy-Award winning saxophonist, David Sánchez. David Sánchez will release next month a new CD “Carib”, containing his original compositions. “Carib” is a Pan-African music ensemble based in the roots of the African Diaspora with a contemporary perspective. In this personal journey, Sánchez uses a modern context to explore the relationships between the West African drum, traditional
melodies from his native Puerto Rico and Haiti. It’s a story that interweaves the colors and textures of the Caribbean, West Africa, and the soul of Jazz.
