From the venue:

“Stand in the Trench, Achilles, Flame-capped and shout for me.” Patrick Shaw-Stewart’s allusion to Iliad 18 transports a grief-stricken Achilles to the shores of Gallipoli. For British poets searching for a means to express the horror and heroism of the Great War, the shared cultural heritage of an education rooted the classics led many of them to images from Homer, Virgil, and scenes of the Trojan War.

Commemorate the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day with a reading of World War I poetry by Shaw-Stewart, Robert Graves, Wilfred Owen, Isaac Rosenberg, and others with Ron Schuchard, Goodrich C. White Professor of English Emeritus, Garth Tissol, professor of Classics, and Geraldine Higgins, associate professor of English.
