From the venue:

John Medeski is a composer, keyboard player, and co-founder of New York City’s jazz-funk greats Medeski Martin & Wood. He’s also a musical renaissance man, blessed with an ability to weave East Coast, West, Coast, and New Orleans rhythms with a flair for the avant-garde. According to lore, his group, John Medeski’s Mad Skillet, was born one cosmic night during the 2015 NOLA Jazz Fest. So naturally, Medeski, guitarist Will Bernard and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band’s sousaphone player Kirk Joseph and drummer Terence Higgins craft tunes that appeal to both serious music heads and jam band revelers basking in the glow of self-medication and the afternoon sun. Now, on the heels of releasing this year’s self-titled LP, the group plays back-to-back sets Friday, April 19, on the Sweetwater stage at 2:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
