The 2019–2020 Candler Concert Series kicks off with a performance by the Kronos Quartet joined by Iranian vocalist Mahsa Vahdat. Since 1973, the Kronos Quartet and leader David Harrington have settled into the role as one of the most forward-thinking and boundary-breaking contemporary violin ensembles. The group has spent a lifetime using music as a means of strengthening connections between people and cultures throughout time and from around the world. For this performance the group joins Vahdat for a program titled, “Music for Change: The Banned Countries,” delving into the classical and regional folk music of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. — Chad Radford
