IDK is not a perfect rapper, but he is the perfect rapper for the waning days of the 2010s. That’s because the Maryland MC’s new album Is He Real? competently synthesizes a handful of his biggest influences, which also happen to be a handful of the most influential artists of the decade. Across 14 tracks, IDK employs the vocal versatility of Kendrick Lamar, the clunky punch lines of Kanye West, and the anarchic instincts of Odd Future, all the while proving himself a very capable rapper/singer a la Frank Ocean. Is He Real? is an enjoyable listen, if sometimes a little too familiar. — Ben Salmon
