Inquiring Minds: Really Free

Tuesday October 12, 2021 01:00 PM EDT
Cost: $14-$18

From the venue:

Really Free: The Radical Art of Nellie Mae Rowe is the first major exhibition of Nellie Mae Rowe’s work in more than twenty years and the first to consider her practice as a radical act of self-expression and liberation in the post-civil-rights-era South. After the death of Rowe’s second husband and her longtime employer, she reclaimed her artistic practice and filled her home with hundreds of drawings, handmade dolls, chewing-gum sculpture, and found-object installations transforming her home into her “Playhouse.”

Curious about Really Free: The Radical Art of Nellie Mae Rowe? Inquiring Minds invites participants to explore a specific theme within the exhibition through small group conversation facilitated by museum educators. These sessions focus on a handful of artworks and are participatory in nature—they are not lectures. Come as you are, with your observations, ideas, and opinions.
