CL RECOMMENDS
CL’s Doug DeLoach Recommends: Founded in 2010, the San Francisco based Pacific Mambo Orchestra brings the big, bright, brassy sound of Latin big band jazz to the Rialto Center for the Arts. The 20-piece ensemble draws upon the tradition of classic mambo orchestras of the 1950s to create original music and modern arrangements of hit songs. — DD

From the venue:

Pacific Mambo Orchestra (PMO) is a 20 piece big band with an even bigger sound that Salsa Trips Magazine named “one of the best Latin big bands in the world.” Since this comparatively unknown act surpassed industry superstars Marc Anthony and Carlos Vives to win the 2014 Best Latin Tropical Album Grammy, the band has only grown more dynamic, with a remarkable stage presence that enlivens audiences and instantly converts listeners to fans. Their 2020 album “The Ill Side” draws from the diverse repertoires of the band’s phenomenal roster of musicians, exploring salsa, bolero, and timba with improvisational flare. These masters of showmanship have roused jazz festival crowds from Monterey to Montreux.
