The Hi-Jivers, Skyler Saufley

CRITIC’S PICK: Fronted by the searing vocals of tattooed singer Dawna Zahn and her husband/guitarist Austin John, this Nashville based quartet mixes greasy rockabilly with retro country and gutbucket blues for a show that’s explosive and fun. If the Star Bar were still booking 90s edgy twang, they’d be a natural. It’s upbeat, frantic stuff (gotta love that doghouse bass) featuring originals as cool as the covers. — Hal Horowitz
From the venue:The Hi-Jivers are a 4-piece Rock and Roll/Rhythm and Blues band that play music inspired by the 50s and 60s but modernized with their passionate and wild originals. The vocalist, Dawna Zahn, is a powerhouse soulful singer who has the dynamic ability to resurrect her favorite blues artists like Howlin’ Wolf and Big Mama Thornton with ease. She is accompanied by her husband, Austin John, whose guitar arsenal has the maturity of a well seasoned blues guitarist, but with the sting of an explosive rock and roller. They’ve already had the pleasure of performing all over the world including many cities in the U.S. and many countries in Europe.
