CRITIC’S PICK: The much lauded—Stephen King’s testimony is front and center on his web page-- singer/songwriter McDermott returns with a double album )one acoustic, one electric) in tow. Which means he has a lot of new music to dip into, all of it pretty great. There is no doubting his allegiance to a Bruce Springsteen aesthetic with his ringing choruses and gutsy storytelling. But there are far worse comparisons, and McDermott is a quality songsmith as well as riveting vocalist who delivers the goods with emotion and conviction. In other words, he’s deserving of a bigger audience, so catching him in this venue is a treat.— Hal Horowitz
