Unfamiliar Heaven | Mystic Treasures | Re:Purpose
Echo Contemporary Art presents three solo exhibitions: Treyvian Dowell’s “unfamiliarheaven”, Chaice Garner’s “Mystic Treasures”, and Charity Hamidullah’s “Re:Purpose”. The exhibitions open Saturday, March 1st from 7pm to 10pm and closes Friday March 28th.
Treyvian Dowell’s “unfamiliarheaven”
Treyvian Dowell’s “Unfamiliarheaven” is a project that explores identity, memory, and the emotional weight of personal transformation. Rooted in self- driven narratives and initially inspired by the monomyth, it is a space to juxtapose impressionistic portraiture with an influence of realism pressed immediately against moments of abstraction, creating a visual language oscillating between familiarity and the flat. Rendered with oil, acrylic, pastel, and colored pencil on paper and canvas, these works capture friends and others in Dowell’s immediate space with lifelike facial features framed by abstracted, otherworldly hair and forms. The compositions often include obscured digital symbols, emulating screens and grounding the work in our shared cultural memory. At its core, “unfamiliarheaven” preserves moments of emotional intensity, using color, texture, and form to evoke the complexity of black interiority and presence.
Chaice Garner’s “Mystic Treasures”
Chaice Garner’s “Mystic Treasures” is a collection of ceramic works that weave together symbolism, folklore and animal imagery. Through vibrant colors and intricate details, these treasures tell stories of protection, wonder, transformation and reveal the hidden magic in the seen and unseen energies of life. Inspired by the inherent beauty and complexity of life, Garner aims to infuse her works with a sense of serenity and protection, warding off evil energy and anxiety.
Charity Hamidullah’s “Re:Purpose”
Charity Hamidullah’s “Re:Purpose” weaves a tapestry of inspiration, using recycled spray paint cans from past mural installations and found objects to ignite a journey of self-discovery. Each piece tells a tale of willpower, where the spark of passion is rekindled, inviting viewers to embrace their own journeys. As various mediums are intentionally paired Hamidullah begins to assemble narratives which capture the essence of her subjects, transforming their stories into empowering beacons. This exhibition not only celebrates the playful nature of rediscovery but also serves as a catalyst for all who wander through, urging them to find their own build in the construction of life.
