Buffalo Nichols, Eddie’s Attic — Those who claim they don’t make Delta bluesmen like they used to need to check out the colorfully named Nichols. His rugged old-time picking and gruff voice approximates what Howlin’ Wolf might have sounded like before he went electric and got a backing band. But Nichols also includes current electronics as mostly percussive support for his deep voice and unfiltered approach. It’s authentic yet contemporary and emotionally moving especially in Eddie’s intimate space. Not to be missed. — Hal Horowitz
